Last night, pop rockers The Colourist (http://www.facebook.com/thecolourist) performed a special headlining show at the recordBar amidst their national tour with Echosmith.
Opening the show was local Kansas City band Is Paris Burning (http://www.facebook.com/isparisburning). Honestly, when I first heard about this band, I assumed they played rock/heavy metal music, but had never actually listened to them.
(Disclaimer: I have nothing against heavy metal music, it’s just not my usual musical preference). That said, I was extremely confused when I found out they would be opening for a pop band. My assumption was extremely wrong, though. They’re a really good indie pop group. No heavy metal whatsoever. Lesson learned: DON’T JUDGE A BAND BY THEIR NAME! If you like catchy indie pop music, support local music and check these guys out at http://www.isparisburning.bandcamp.com.

Califonia pop/rock group The Colourist headlined the show with an hour and a half of upbeat dance pop tunes. The four piece, with both male and female lead vocalists, has a unique stage set up. Each band member set up in a line on stage, rather than the typical set up of drums in the back/lead singer up front.
They referred to the audience as their guinea pigs, as they played new songs that had never been performed live. Prior to this show, I was only familiar with their two older hits, “Little Games” and “We Won’t Go Home.” They just released their new single “When I’m Away” last week, and I’ve had it on repeat all day today. I ended up loving every single song they performed, which is pretty rare for me. I didn’t want their set to end!
Here’s a short clip of The Colourist performing “Little Games.”
