Miss Music's Fall 2014 Playlist

Every single year for the past 5 years or so, I've found myself listening to Steel Train more than I do any other time of the year. Why? I'm not entirely sure. I went to a Steel Train show around this time of year several years ago, so perhaps I have a  subconscious association between the band and Fall. Fun fact: Steel Train is Bleachers frontman/Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff's band from the early 2000's.  They never officially broke up, but it's safe to say with the success of Fun. and Bleachers that Steel Train probably won't be making a comeback anytime soon (I'm still trying to get over it… *sigh*). Needless to say, though, the day I found out Jack was going behind the mic again with Bleachers was a wonderful day. Check out Antonoff in action (with an awesome afro) six years ago in the video for their song "I Feel Weird." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COJ5dlhO9Mk

On a semi-related note, I haven't taken Taylor Swift's new album 1989 out of my car's CD player since it was released.  If you're unaware of the correlation between Taylor Swift and Steel Train, Jack Antonoff partnered with Swift on several songs on the album.  Listen to some Steel Train songs, then listen to "Out of the Woods" and Antonoff's major influence on that song becomes obvious.  Really, there isn't a bad song on 1989.  I've always been a Taylor Swift fan, but the obsession never caught on until I heard this album.  I am now a proud T. Swift fanatic!  Although I enjoy every single song on the album, my favorite has to be "All You Had to Was Stay." That is my life story.  Every time I listen, I think, "Okay Taylor… please get out of my brain.  This is a little creepy."  The consistent relatability of her songs and her active effort to connect with her fans will assure this Taylor Swift craze won't die out anytime soon.

Another album I can't get enough of is Phantom Pop, the newest release from Wild Party.  The album is the perfect pick-me-up to get out of the cold weather blues. Every single song is a catchy, anthemic pop HIT! This band, who have toured with pop greats Andrew McMahon and Lights, is going to be HUGE! It is impossible to listen to this album without getting every song stuck in your head… and that's a good thing. I promise.  Listen for yourself!
