Star Trek Into Darkness is J.J. Abrams'
second installment into the reboot of the Star Trek series. It stars Chris Pine,
Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Zoe Saldana. In this film, the crew of the Enterprise embarks on a mission to track
down a terrorist after a massive attack on Star Fleet. This film is amazing! It's non-stop action from start to end. Any brief
lulls were filled with comedy and insights adding to the depth of the
characters. The acting was great. I really like Chris Pines as the young Captain Kirk,
Zachary Quinto is great as Spock, but Benedict Cumberbatch takes the cake as the
terrorist. He's a great actor and really added a lot to this film. The visual and special effects were fantastic and although, I don't think

FULL STORY: According to a new survey, 77% of people say they look forward to taking road trips with their family or their significant other. BUT . . . they also admit that road trips almost ALWAYS lead to at least a little fighting. Here are the top seven fights people have during road trips . . . 1. Driving skills. That includes everything from driving too slowly or tailgating, to changing lanes too much. 2. The temperature in the car. 3. Directions. 4. Where to eat. 5. Swearing at other drivers or flipping them off. 6. The volume in the car. That includes everything from whether or not to blast the radio to the kids shouting at each other. 7. Smoking.

Jack Reacher was released on DVD this week. This film stars Tom Cruise as a homicide investigator working to solve a case of a sniper who shot 5 victims at random.
When I saw the previews for this movie, I had a feeling it would be cheesy and a fun film to laugh at... and it was. So it you want a good laugh without watching a comedy, check it out.
It turns out playing video games wonât necessarily turn your brain to mush.
In fact, it could be good for you! Research has found that playing computer games may help keep
your brain sharp and prevent aging-related cognitive decline. In some cases, it
may even reverse these effects. Other studies have shown a link between
computer games and lower levels of depression.
In related news, Candy Crush Saga has beat out Angry Birds as the most popular
game on Facebook and mobile devices. More than 15 million people play Candy
Crush on Facebook every day. Whether itâs making them smarter is yet to be
seen.
Do you play computer games? Which ones? Do you think games help keep your
brain sharp? Do you play Candy Crush? Whatâs your favorite game to play on your
mobile device?
I finally had a chance to see '42', the story of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play major league baseball. It stars Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford.
This film isn't perfect by any means, but the story is so important and fascinating, it's a must see. I feel that what Robinson went through was probably much worse than what was portrayed on the screen, but it was nice to get an overview of how he became the legend he is today.
At times I wanted to jump out of my seat and scream for Jackie to take action against his persecutors, but the way he bridled his emotions and let his ability do the talking, was simply inspiring. I can only imagine the type of man he must have been.
Boseman, a newcomer to the big screen, was a good choice to play Jackie Robinson. He did a good job of encapsulating Robinson with his look and even how he ran and hit. I was also impressed by Harrison Ford's performance as Branch Rickey, the President of the Brooklyn Dodgers. It was refreshing to see Ford immerse himself into a role like he did in this movie.
I was truly inspired by this film and I believe anyone who watches it will like it. Go see it!!!
Here's a preview for M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth. I have some reservations about this film, especially after Shyamalan's last few movies. I'm hoping for a pleasant surprise, but it doesn't look too promising.

LOVE DONâT COST A THING (BUT DIVORCE
DOES)
An over-the-top wedding could cost you more than just thousands of dollars.
Many couples who celebrate their nuptials with extravagant events end up getting
divorced- and citing the expense as a reason for their split.
Eight out of 10 couples who divorce within five years after tying the knot blame
the excessive cost of the wedding. Experts say that once the big day is past and
reality sets in, the stress of paying off wedding debts can be hard on
relationships. The only thing worse than blowing six figures on your wedding?
Having to spend the same amount on a divorce attorney a few years later.
What do you think of expensive, over-the-top weddings? How much did your
wedding cost? How much is too much to spend on a wedding? Do you think financial
pressures can put strain on relationships?

If you see The Great Gatsby in 3D there is a 3D preview of the upcoming film entitled Gravity starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. This movie looks terrifying and I can't wait to see it!!!
Below is a link to the trailer. Seeing this teaser in 3D is enough reason in and of itself to see The Great Gatsby in 3D.
The Great Gatsby stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, and Joel Edgerton. It was directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, Romeo + Juliet, Australia).
This film is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's famed novel The Great Gatsby. It is the story of Nick Carraway (Maguire), an aspiring writer, who moves to New York to work as a bondsman. Nick becomes intrigued by his mysterious and wealthy neighbor, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio). Gatsby invites Nick to one of his lavish parties in order to reconnect with Nick's cousin, Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan).
If you're a huge fan of the book and expect no liberties to be taken from the story, you will not be happy about this film.
That being said, if you want to see an all around great movie and have an open mind to Baz Luhrmann's style, you'll love this movie. The sets, the color, the cars, and the costumes were fantastic. I even liked how they mixed the modern music with the musical styles of the roaring twenties (which may be a turn off for some).
The acting was good all around, but Leonardo DiCaprio was great. He seems to get better with every role he plays and he was a wonderful fit for Gatsby.
This was a great love story, filled with romance, mystery, thrills and extravagance. At a run time of 142 minutes, I never felt like it was too long and in my opinion, it was paced perfectly.
I do feel like you will miss out if you don't see it in 3D. With the lavish colors and sets, it really makes you feel like you're there and I recommend spending a few extra bucks catch this one in 3D.
It's funny, I heard a lot of bad things about this film before I had a chance to see it, but as the movie progressed, I was hard pressed to find anything I didn't like about it. I enjoyed it from beginning to finish.
You will like this if you liked Moulin Rouge! or Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. On a side note, I do think it's geared towards a younger crowd. I give this movie an "A".

Now this is just sad! Almost half of American parents admit to taking money from their childrenâs savings accounts- and more

30% said theyâd consider it in the event of a medical emergency. And then there

When I first heard Hunter Hayes, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed his
music. I'm not a big country music fan at all, so this is totally out of my
element...but who can resist a catchy pop-country hook?!
Wednesday afternoon, I had the chance to see Hunter perform a short
acoustic set at the Kill Devil Club. In between songs, he talked to fans and
expressed his gratitude toward them each time. He seemed like a genuinely nice,
humble, guy.
Hunter played three songs: "Somebody's Heartbreak," his first number one
hit "Wanted," and his newest single, "I Want Crazy." He sounded just as good
(if not better) live as he does recorded. With his wide vocal range, he hit
each note flawlessly.
Check out the deluxe version of his debut album, "Hunter Hayes [Encore],"
which includes all of the songs off the original album PLUS new music, available

Iron Man 3 stars Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don
Cheadle and Ben Kingsley. Shane Black has taken over as the director instead of
Jon Favreau in this installment of the series.
This film starts out at a fairly slower pace than the previous two, but
builds as it goes and keeps getting better and better.
In this one, Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) is called upon by the public to deal
with a sinister terrorist who calls himself Mandarin (Kingsley). At the same
time, Stark struggles with extreme anxiety attacks as he tries to deal with the
recent events of saving mankind from the other worldly villains in The
Avengers.
The acting was top notch. Robert Downey Jr. was great as always, and spends
more time out of his Iron Man suit in this one than the previous two Iron
Man films. Guy Pearce was a good addition to the series. He was a perfect
villain and was fun to hate. Ben Kingsley, easily one of the greatest actors of
our time, was amazing in this film. He will most definitely take you by surprise
and his performance alone makes this movie worth seeing.
The action and special effects were great. The story, although slow at times,
was interesting, had great comic relief and a big payoff at the end.
Go see this movie if you liked any of the other Marvel Comics movies such as
Thor, The Avengers or the other two Iron Man movies.
Whether or not you see it in 3D, you'll enjoy this one. I give this picture an
"A-".
Also, be sure to stay all the way through the credits.
Today, Andrew McMahon
released his debut solo EP, âThe Pop Underground.â Now youâre probably
thinking, âWho?!â Andrew McMahon fronted pop/punk band Something Corporate and
piano/rock band Jackâs Mannequin. Still not ringing a bell? Thatâs probably
because he has never had a radio hit with any of his musical projects. But
donât let that fool you. This guy is the full package.
Despite no radio airplay,
McMahon has had an extremely successful musical career and has gained an
enormous fan base over the past decade through extensive worldwide touring and
with music that appeals to a diverse audience. He also consistently puts on one
of the most amazing live shows Iâve ever seen (more on that later).
Iâm being completely honest
when I say that there isnât a song Andrew McMahon has written that I donât
enjoy, whether it be for Something Corporate, Jackâs Mannequin, or his solo
music. This man is a brilliant songwriter, musician, and performer. His
passion is heard through each song and each performance.
His solo EP, âThe Pop
Underground,â is now available on iTunes. He will be in Kansas City on June 21st
with Allen Stone and O.A.R at The Crossroads. You donât want to miss this
show!
Iâll leave you with a sample
of music from each of McMahonâs musical projects (Something Corporate, Jackâs
Mannequin, & Andrew McMahon).

"Pain & Gain" is true story of a gang of bodybuilders who kidnap a
wealthy businessman in order to take all of his money and assets. It was
directed by Michael Bay and stars Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie
and Tony Shaloub.
Although the previews for this movie make it appear to be a fun and action
packed comedy, I found it to be highly disturbing, anti-climactic, and
frustrating. The fact that this film was based on a true story is disheartening,
mainly from knowing the fact that people can be so stupid in real life.
The film started out pretty good, but as it progressed, it became more and
more sickening and to be completely honest, I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Everyone in the film did a good job and Tony Shaloub was, in my opinion, the
best thing about it. Unfortunately, good acting can't make up for a story like
this one. The cinematography was strange with odd camera angles and shaky shots
that made it difficult to see what was taking place at times.
I can't think of anyone to whom I would recommend this movie. I think maybe
if you liked "Very Bad Things", you might like it (might).
I give this movie a "D". Which is disappointing as I thought it looked pretty
good.

One Direction's North American summer tour may have just become a little more
interesting. According to "The Mirror," the boys are reportedly looking to swap
their swanky private jets for a customized version of Scooby Doo's Mystery
Machine as they tour the U.S. Apparently, Harry, Niall, Zayn, Liam and Louis
spent about 100-thousand dollars to buy an old Volkswagen camper "Mystery
Machine" look-a-like that's currently at a shop in England in the process of
being pimped out. The new van will reportedly include state-of-the-art plasma
screen televisions, individual entertainment consoles and their trademark "1D"
logo stamped on the sides.
A source tells the paper that the boys
wanted to do something special for U.S. fans, but that it's still not a done
deal. The "Mystery Machine" needs to be cleared by their management team, and
if it's deemed too impractical to drive from city to city, it won't be used.

Last Thursday night, I ventured up to Lawrence to enjoy a

The indie pop/rock trio, consisting of vocalist/pianist Ben

to an intimate crowd, humorously interacting with the audience in between songs.
Jukebox the Ghost performed songs off of their three albums,
as well as a crowd favorite cover of Queenâs âSomebody to Love.â

The film starts out a little slow, but builds with suspense as it goes. It
drags a little here and there and almost seemed like it was 3 hours long even
though the run time is listed at 126 minutes.
The acting was okay, given the subpar dialogue and cheesy moments. Tom Cruise
was his usual self and Morgan Freeman added a nice, but small touch. I didn't
really have my expectations too high going into this movie and that set me up
for a pleasant surprise. I found the story to be compelling and although not the
most unpredictable or original movie ever, I couldn't help but to sit back and
enjoy the ride.
The best thing about this movie were the special effects and sound editing. I
must say they were fantastic throughout the entire film and made it worth seeing
on the silver screen. This is a fun film and I believe audiences will find
themselves enjoying it for the most part.
If you liked iRobot, Moon or Promethius, give this movie
a try. I would give it a solid "B" maybe even a "B+" because of how good the
special effects were.
