THE WEEKEND BOX OFFICE REPORT

Man of Steel soared it's way to number one at the box office this weekend with an estimated $125 million domestic and an estimated $196 million worldwide. Finding this kind of success has surely set the stage for a whole new DC Comics franchise and a potential League of Justice series. Marvel has dominated the marketplace for comic book films up to this point, but it appears they will now have some real competition.

This is the End came in second this weekend with a five day total of $32.8 million and has already made enough to cover the estimated $25 million budget. This is the best opening for Seth Rogan in a non-animated film since The Green Hornet, which opened with just over $33 million and offered a more expensive 3D option.

Now You See Me stayed strong with the number three spot this weekend with just over $10 million. This film has now reached the $80 million mark and has covered the estimated $75 million budget.

Fast & Furious 6 came in fourth with an estimated $9.4 million, followed by last week's number one movie, The Purge. Which brought in an estimated $8.2 million this weekend.

Also, worth noting: Iron Man 3 continued to surpass the previous two films of the franchise as it reached the $400 million mark this weekend.
