LOVE IS ALL YOU NEED
Love is All You Need is a foreign film starring Pierce Brosnan (The Matador) and Trine Dyrholm (Troubled Water). It's a story about a middle-aged woman who completes her treatment for cancer just before she and her husband head off to Italy to attend their daughter's wedding. Prior to their trip, she finds out that her husband is cheating on her and she decides to travel separately from him to Italy. On her journey, she encounters a bitter, workaholic, widower and unintentionally shows him that beauty still exists in the world.
Although, for the most part, this film is fairly slow, I found it to be very touching. I thought Trine Dyrholm and Pierce Brosnan had wonderful chemistry and it made for a really nice story. Dyrholm was outstanding in this film and I wouldn't be surprised to see her earn some nominations for best actress for her performance. Pierce Brosnan has rarely been better and I thoroughly enjoyed his character throughout the entire film.
I thought the cinematography was good and the Italian scenery was nice. The screenplay was well written and the acting was great. There were some powerful scenes and even a couple of laughs in the film. It was somewhat predictable at times, but all in all, I enjoyed it.
If you like romance movies, don't mind reading subtitles, and if cancer has personally affected you or someone you know, then you will definitely enjoy this movie.
My grade for this film: B+
