The Getaway

The Getaway stars Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez.  It is about a former racecar driver (Hawke) who discovers his wife has been kidnapped.  He is forced to drive a stolen Ford Mustang through a crowded city per the request of the kidnapper. To make things worse, he is forced to bring a young girl (Gomez) with him after she fails an attempted carjacking.

This movie is so bad, that at times I wondered if the producer had Ethan Hawke's real wife kidnapped and he was being forced to be in the film.  The screenplay is horrendous and no one in the world could have turned out a good performance with such awful dialogue.   The shots were strange, the back story was extremely under developed, and the plot seemed to be inspired by a round of Grand Theft Auto.
Ethan Hawke pretty much dialed it in for this movie without being  bad.  It still pains me to see him in this type of role.  It's far below his level of talent.  This is the first time I've seen Selena Gomez act in anything and she definitely deserves a Razzie for her performance.
The only thing that was decent were some of the chase scenes, but they were so ridiculously farfetched, it was laughable.  When I went to see this movie, I really wanted to sit back and enjoy something  and cheesy and fun like Jack Reacher , but The Getaway  was unwatchable.  It's easily the worst movie of the year.  It's probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
My grade for this film: F
