Ender's Game is the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller based on the popular novel with the same title written by Orson Scott Card. It stars Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Harrison Ford (42). It takes place in a future where the world has survived a massive and devastating alien attack. The story focuses on a young boy who has been recruited by the International Military in hopes he will be the one that can lead them to victory against another attack.
This movie has a very interesting story and having not read the novel or known anything at all about it before I saw it, I was pretty happy overall. The story dragged a little at the beginning, but as things progressed I got more and more into it. It did feel rushed with how much content was in the movie and I didn't feel like things had enough time to develop as much as they could have.
The special effects were very good throughout the movie. Once the story got going, there were some really fun action sequences and the visuals and costumes were great. It was easy to sit back and enjoy the ride.
The acting in the film was also really good. Asa Butterfield who played the title character in Hugo, was great. He did a fantastic job with his character's development and really portrayed his emotions perfectly. He most definitely has a bright future ahead of himself.
Harrison Ford was good as the veteran colonel who wants nothing more for the boy to succeed. I liked his character quite a bit .
This film is really geared towards kids and I think the teenagers in particular will really enjoy this movie. If this had come out when I was in Junior High or High School, I would have loved it. It's not dirty, the language is pretty tame, and it's not too violent. I would definitely recommend it as a family outing. It's good fun for everyone.
