Gravity is Alfonso Cuarón's Sci-fi thriller starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. It about a team of astronauts and their struggle to survive when an a debris field destroys everything in sight and leaves them drifting into space.
Gravity is seriously one of the best movies ever made. It is truly an achievement in modern cinema and special effects. The visual effects are beautiful and sound editing is brilliant. The story is one of the most realistic I've ever seen in a Sci-fi movie. It's full of fast-paced and nail biting action throughout the entire movie. This is a thrill-ride that has to be experienced on the biggest screen you can find. Do NOT wait to rent this movie. I've never seen anything like it and I can't wait to see it again!
The dialogue between George Clooney's character and the Mission Controller voiced by Ed Harris at the start of the film, along with the stunning visuals, truly provided an atmosphere that made the audience feel like they were part of a routine space walk. That is, until the debris field arrived. From that point on this movie kept me on the edge of my seat until I almost couldn't take it anymore. It was full of non-stop thrills, moments of terror, beautiful scenery, great acting, very realistic special effects and the story never dragged.
Another thing I want to focus on is the how unbelievably amazing the sound editing was. The way in which the filmmakers captured the lack of noise in the vacuum of space was a true work of genius. It added a ton of tension and made each climax so much more terrifying. I can't imagine there will be any other film this year that can compare and this is sure to win all the major sound editing awards.
George Clooney was great as a seasoned astronaut on his final mission. His character was very likable and added much needed somberness amid the devastation.
Sandra Bullock was marvelous in this film. She did a fantastic job of capturing the idiosyncrasies of a loner and somewhat nerdy medical engineer. I really empathized with her character and wanted nothing more for her to find her way to safety. She was picture perfect and will surely get nominated for another Oscar this year.
All in all, this is definitely my favorite movie of the year. I can't imagine anything being as good as Gravity and it has my vote for Best Picture thus far. A movie this good does not come along very often. It's an amazing experience and with a running time of 90 minutes, it is an absolute must-see!!!
It doesn't really matter if it's in 3D or at the IMAX, but if you can find both, it's worth the extra money! I promise you won't be disappointed.
