Mix plays the sweet new song "Take Your Time" by Sam Hunt and how cool is this?!?!
Hunt was a quarterback both in college AND for the Chiefs!!!
He spent two years at Middle Tennessee State and UAB (pictured below) before signing with the Chiefs and going to training camp in 2007. Hunt ultimately didn't make the team but still pretty darn cool that he's gone from that to a full fledged singer-song writer!
Enjoy his new song when you hear it - especially if you like ballads!
As this article in TIME mentions, it's a good thing Lindsay wasn't getting this as a tattoo, because what she was trying to post last night in Arabic and what actually came out on Instagram was completely different... and quite embarassing.
I was extremely saddened and angered after watching the below video of ESPN reporter/anchor Britt McHenry.
First of all, you should NEVER talk to a human being like that in 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999% of cases. If the person is a horrible criminal or has done awful awful things, then maybe you can excuse some of that... but a worker at a Tow Company who is just doing her job? Really? You're going to go off and berate her education, her job, her body, etc.? That is seriously beyond messed up. If I were ESPN, I would fire her, not put her on one week suspension. And I have a sneaking suspicion that is what will ultimately happen after the public continues it's outcry. I mean really... who can watch her from now on when she pops on TV? Not me.
This is a case of bullying in adults... and I think it's important we recognize that fact because YES, it typically occurs in kids but also, we see it in the work place and obviously, out and about in everyday life.
There is no place for bullying and I hope that Britt, ESPN and the rest of the world continues to learn that. This important issue needs to continue to be brought into the forefront and addressed.
Click below to watch the seriously messed up video.
I travel a decent amount and throughout the last six months, when I tell people I'm from KC, they always bring up the Royals.
Then, they'll usually ask how exciting it was being at the World Series last year and I'll tell them something more amazing than that happened:
This entire town was CAPTIVATED and came together.
And while I have always believed the Royals will make one more World Series with this current crop of players - in say, the next 3-4 years - I never expected to see this town just as GIDDY right off the bat in 2015.
But a 7-0 start will do that for you and that's where KC sits. The best part about this group, and its fanbase/city, is that we are ALL sick of not being taken seriously and we ALL have a chip on our shoulder. That is going to make this summer so much fun to go through, in my opinion, just knowing that we are underappreciated and undervalued.
The next question becomes - how long can we ride out this win streak/undefeated string as the only team in MLB?
Who knows.. but one thing is for sure - this town has once again become #ForeverRoyal
I was outraged over the weekend when I heard about a few KC teens embarking on a violent and embarassing spree through the Plaza known as "Putting 'em in a coffin."
If you have no idea what I'm talking about and think that sounds like the most stupid thing you've ever heard, well... that's because IT IS the most stupid thing you've ever heard.
Some genius kids heard about this trend of running up to parked cars, JUMPING onto the hoods and rolling around like you're in a coffin, while video taping it and putting it on-line... and they did it here in KC.
Yes, that's SOOOO COOL. Let's run and jump on cars and vandalize them for no apparent reason and laugh and video tape it.
The punk kids also taunted and tried to intimidate a parked car with a person in it on the Plaza, too.
I want to give big props to the KC MO PD for FINDING THESE PEOPLE and ARRESTING them!!! Also, to Mayor Sly James for doing all he can to help security on one of many jewels in our city - The Plaza.
In the end, there's only so much police, politicans and WE can all do... it comes down to parenting and honestly, the IQ's of some individuals.
Let's hope this was an isolated incident - here's a sickening still from the You Tube video.
I simply cannot express how excited I am for Royals baseball to FINALLY be back!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's not much better in life than driving by Kauffman Stadium on a summer night and seeing it all lit up... seeing the fans come together... seeing the guys play for the city and thinking of the guys and days of years gone by... a storm coming through once in awhile to announce that it's summer... completely random strangers sitting in the crowd and hi-fiving/hugging each other....
There is no better sport than major league baseball... and there is nothing better about this city than summer nights at The K...
Then keep listening to Mix 93.3 at 7:30, 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 and 5:30!
I went many times as a kid and while I was doing radio in Jacksonville, Florida. Literally is no doubt the happiest place in the world.
Plus, on this hot 80 something degree April day, I can't help but think of the ice cream man coming around during my childhood and selling those Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Sandwiches. I always felt so guilty eating the ear!!! haha.
Seriously though, a trip for 4 to Disney World... with air fare, hotel and tickets included... many save for multiple years to afford it - we want to speed that process up and just flat out hook you up!
A lot of upset people as Zayn officially has left One Direction to live a "more normal life," which I can respect.
Zane is 22 and apparently, if you believe rumors, has been having difficulties with the "rock star lifestyle" while being engagaged. Some believe he is making certain he mends his relationship and putting it first.
I LOVE this decision - it says a lot about his character. He's had a taste of fame and now, can experience a more normal life with routine.
This WILL NOT affect One D's show in KC on 7/28 at Arrowhead - it'll still go on as planned - as Niall, Harry, Liam and Louis will continue One D as a four-piece group.
My Mom, who loses EVERY-THING, will be happy to hear this story. Even her favorite actor Tom Hanks loses things! :)
Check out the cool story below - he misplaced his credit card in New York City when a random guy found it and returned it to Hanks. Nice to know there are still some good, decent, honest people out there!
Hopefully you've had a chance to see this by now on social media - the "Paris of the Plains" video that a local KC photographer named Tim Lair produced over the span of a year in promoting Kansas City.
You have to click and watch for yourself - its beautiful, and contains music from another local Kansas Citian, Zane Callister.
Enjoy - will make you have even more pride about living in this amazing city!
As I'm sure you know, I'm as big of a Royals supproter as there is in existance! Ever since I was a kid, they were a HUGE part of my life, even though I didn't even grow up around here. My goal was always to end up at Mix 93.3 mainly (honestly) because the Royals were here and I wanted season tickets while working for a great radio station! Both dreams have come into fruition and I still pinch myself some days.
Anyway, a HUGE part of why I'm such a beloved Royals fan is because of one man... Mike Sweeney... who got elected into the Royals Hall of Fame, as announced today!!! I couldn't be more excited for a man that I've gotten to know pretty well over the last several years and a man that is the classic example of "I wish my daughter could marry a man like that."
Not only was Sweeney a great baseball player but he cares about people more than anyone I've ever met.. He lights up a room when he walks in and gives me (and thousands of others) hope that there is still greatness in this world. He's a man of great faith, ethics and morals.
Thank you Sween Dogg for being one of my role models since high school, when I first met you in Omaha, and CONGRATULATIONS on a well deserved honor. You did and continue to do this city right.
I'm a lucky man in the month of February, as I just returned from the Hot Tub Time Machine 2 World Premiere and now, I leave for Las Vegas this weekend for the annual "trip with the boys."
I'll be meeting my buds Dustin and Austin from college out in Vegas and plan on taking that city down "Ocean's 19" style for $8.7 million on college basketball betting. Not quite sure how I'm going to turn the $900 I'm taking out for gambling into $8.7 million but I'll figure that out when I arrive.
Speaking of which, I will be needing an armored car driver to drive my winnings back to KC. Volunteers?
Who are we kidding... I'll talk to you again Monday, when I'm STILL broke as a joke :)
As a cat lover, I find this video hilarious but even I must admit that I would be annoyed if my cats had this SHRIEK of a meow!!! Good grief, that is AW-FUL!!!
Put ear plugs in before you listen - the kitties are loud and making it well known that their owner shall NOT shower from now on!! :) I don't know if they think she's in harms way or just want in... but either way, its funny stuff.
If "Royals Fever" was a diagnosable disease... I would be in intensive care.
And the only treatment for it is the 2015 season finally getting here... and its not too far now, with ROYALS FANFEST RETURNING THIS WEEKEND at Bartle Hall!!!
Essentially, FanFest kicks off the 2015 season, as pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in just three weeks. So once FanFest is over, its time to start realistically talking about the new season and putting the amazing 2014 season in our memory bank.
If you've ever been to FanFest, there's no doubt you're coming back... its amazing. If not, here's what it is:
-Royals player autographs (past and present)
-Stage presentations with Royals player Q&A's
-Newest Royals merchandise and game used items for sale
-Tons and tons of exhibits and games/fun for the whole family
-And once again, I'll be broadcasting live.
This guy nearly learned the hard way that losing your surroundings due to texting can be fatal, whether you're texting while driving or in this case.... walking down your drive way.
Suburban L.A., morning commute, this gentleman is texting, and has NO IDEA what he's about to encounter... luckily, he averts the near disaster by running away from the Black Bear (though in retrospect, you are NOT supposed to run when you come across one).
The whole thing was captured by an L.A. TV station from their traffic helicopter. Uh-Mazing!
How about that Mariah Carey, one upping Britney Spears with a residency at Caesers Palace!
Mariah will get over $475,000 per concert (reportedly) at her Caeser's residence, though she might want to make sure she doesn't get stiffed by the huge hotel, which is currently in the process of potentially filing bankruptcy... they owe Robert Deniro, Gordon Ramsay and many others a BOATLOAD of money.
Amazing how a hotel can potentially go bankrupt and at the same time, dole out this kind of money to someone... I'm in the wrong biz!
Anyway, I look forward to hopefully seeing this show. I would LOVE to hear Mariah sing some of my favorites live, like "We Belong Together," "Hero," "Don't Forget About Us" and "Butterfly."
Imagine you have a wedding in mid-December of 2014, Los Angeles, when RANDOMLY, a whole crew of producers rush your reception, put up video equipment and BAM, Maroon 5 shows up and literally CRASHES YOUR WEDDING!!!
That's what the band did a few weeks ago when they teamed up with their old friend David Dobkin, who just happened to also direct a movie you might have heard of... "Wedding Crashers."
The band did so for their new video "Sugar," which debuts this Saturday.
Check out the full story below - HOW COOL IS THIS?!???! Can you imagine?
Let's begin this by acknowledging that ANY DISEASE that harms any living creature is tragic. Period. Doesn't matter what it is.
With that said, one of the five WORST ones, in my opinion, is Alzheimer's Disease, which literally wipes a persons brain of memories, recollection, processing, etc. Its something I've never been directly touched by before but from talking to those who have, and hearing the AWFUL stories, it sounds as if it doesn't get a lot worse.
Well, there COULD (knock on wood) be MAJOR developments in curing or preventing this, thanks to the awesome scientists and researches at Stanford.
Click for more info - let's HOPE this is sustainable and produceable so that eventually, we can see a world without Alzheimer's.
No matter which (if any) Holiday(s) you celebrate, I wish you and your family a GREAT rest of 2014 and hope you are able to spend lots of time together. Even if not, if you're far from home or don't have a lot of family left, I hope you are able to spend time with loved ones this Holiday season and give the ultimate gift of them all - GIVING TO OTHERS. Whether that be volunteering or literally giving away presents, may you light the faces of many up and feel fulfilled this season.
Since many won't be checking this until the New Year, I'll also wish you a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
Talk soon and thank you for being a part of my life and allowing me into yours.
I don't have yet kids (that I know of) but I'm looking forward to having them someday and hopefully, being a little league Dad! I imagine myself being the cool Father that my kids' friends will always love because I'll order them pizza and let them stay up late on sleepovers and just be so darn cool...
Anyway... back on track...
This 5 year old kid in Ohio heard that the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) was dropping its football program because of lack of funds... and he wanted to help out... so he sent them his allowance... the rest is AWESOME.
I am a bit late to the party but wanted to share the amazing and heartfelt story of Raju the Elephant with you, just in case you also didn't hear about this.
Earlier this year, it was ruled that Raju would remain safe and sound, far away from his owner that for FIFTY YEARS, chained him up as a SLAVE, using his body for various things and hardly feeding him. He was abused and tortured. Every. Single. Day. For FIFTY YEARS.
This completely tears my heart apart and makes me feel so angry and sad, but also thankful that Raju had a group who was willing to break in and perform a daring rescue to save him.
Watch his story and learn about Raju below, as well as other ways you can help both him and other innocent animals.
We are excited and humbled to once again have the opportunity to work with the GREAT people with Children's Miracle Network and KU Med for the "Mix For Kids Radio-Thon!"
As always, we celebrate these great hospitals and programs, and the lives that they've touched, both today, in the past and the future. There have been tragic stories, yes - WAY TOO MANY. But there have also been AWESOME SUCCESS STORIES too. And in all of the cases, no matter the outcome, each parent, family and child seems to genuinely feel grateful for the outstanding medical coverage and compassionate care that we have in KC. As I talk to many of these parents day after day, year after year, they move to KC expressely for the medical care. These hospitals are a true "feather in our cap" and that's why we look forward to working with you to help raise money and continue to provide them for the kids and families they help. Bad hands are dealt at an alarming rate, but they do all they can to turn problems into positive solutions. And that makes me very comforted knowing we're helping to support that and recognize that.
Enjoy the Radio-Thon the next two days on Mix and please help a Kansas City child and pleding $$$/becoming a Miracle Maker at 888-499-KIDS.
Since I likely won't speak with you again until next week, I just wanted to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!
This is a Holiday that is probably overlooked more than it should be. I think we as human beings have it in our nature to only dwell on the things we DON'T HAVE or the things that we feel are WRONG in our lives, rather than ENJOYING what we DO have.
BTW, sorry to be "that guy" capitalizing random words for emphasis. :)
But seriously... I challenge you to sit back and reflect this Thanksgiving and even this Holiday season about all of the things you DO have to be thankful for. I bet there are way more than you realize.
Now that that's said, enjoy this "Three F Holiday" - FAMILY, FOOD and FOOTBALL!!!!
The United States Postal Service continues to cut by the day, making it more and more likely that within a few years, mail will only be delivered a few times a day and in a decade, perhaps it won't even exist other than packages, certified mail, etc. via places like UPS or Fed Ex.
I am actually pretty sad about this... The USPS announced that they're getting rid of 82 more postal centers throughout the country, as well as more and more branches. That's loss of jobs and less efficiency with mail delivery.
I'm pretty new aged in everything I do - I've full embraced technology in 2014 and have about every gizmo you could need.
But there's something sweet and sentimental about hand written letters... about going to the end of your drive way to get the mail... about middle aged delivery men who used to wear striped tube socks up their knees... :) I will miss the postal service as it continues to dwindle away... just think how good of a deal it is - you can mail a freaking letter, ANYWHERE in the U.S., for around 50 cents. Do you realize how good of a deal that is? it's still the lowest among major countries.
Think how much it would cost you to do it on your own, and all of a sudden the postal service becomes a great deal.
Now don't mind me... I'm off to pick up the milk that my milkman left by my front door. I'll send this telegram on its way.
I wanted to congratulate both Royals left fielder Alex Gordon & Royals General Manager Dayton Moore on being the two awarded the honor of flipping the Plaza Lights in 2014, on Thanksgiving night!
Both are extremely deserving and hard working, humbled, good human beings.
In the case of Alex, I went to high school with his wife and have gotten the pleasure of getting to know the family pretty well. Couldn't be better people representing our city, both on and off the field.
Who else CANT WAIT to see the below lights again?!?!? #Beautiful
Seriously... where does the weirdness and wrongness end in this world?
Just tack this on to the already ridicolous ongoing list - a former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader from 2005 (Molly Shattuck) has been accused of having "relations" with a 15 year old boy. YUCK. GROSS. WRONG.
She's 46!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made news "back in the day" for being the oldest cheerleader in NFL history. Now she's making news for all the WRONG reasons. She met the kid off of Instagram.
This month has been ALL about the #Royals in KC - I can't tell you how amazing this is to be a part of... I guess I don't have to, since you are living it up, too!
Seriously... everywhere I go... even people that have NO CLUE that I'm obsessed with the Royals... All they talk about is them... my frineds across the country telling me they're now Royals fans... your calls... social media posts... this town has a one track mind and I LOVE IT.
Let's get this thing going tonight in World Serise Game #1 with a "W!"
Not only is "Hos" GETTING IT DONE on the baseball field for the Royals, but he's also showing a love for the fans of KC that we haven't seen for quite some time!
How cool is this... by now you've probably heard the story - Hos goes to McFadden's late Sunday and racks up a $20,000 bar tab, buying EVERYONE in the bar FREE DRINKS for an hour, as a way to say "thank you" to the fans.
Regardless of whether you say "that's chump change to him" (which is only partially true), it's still an incredible sign of respect and affection to the fans, and not something else that's been done around these parts.
Shows enormous good will by Hos and I think it's awesome.
This is the best OCTOBER ever!!! Even TMZ is picking up the story.
Last night when the Royals were trailing the A's 7-3 in the 8th inning, I tweeted "Still time to come back and win. If we do, I will eat cat food tomorrow on the air at the stroke of 5." Today, I fulfilled my promise after the Royals come from behind victory!
The year was 1996 when the Coca-Cola Company had the genius idea to produce the epic brand of soda called “Surge” to compete with “Mountain Dew.”
As I recall, the first Surge commercials aired during the Super Bowl and featured a whole bunch of teenaged boys wrestling and struggling with each other to see who could get to the top of a hill first to capture the bottle of Surge.
Hopefully you remember Surge, although it apparently wasn’t produced in a few states. It was Coca-Cola’s second attempt at taking on Pepsi’s Mountain Dew head to head (after “Mello Yello” mostly failed). The soda was technically branded to capture younger teens and get them hooked on Surge over Mountain Dew before late teen-hood, but the problem was that many parents (who bought the household groceries for that age group) believed it to be pure sugar and a lot worse than Mountain Dew. Multitudes of schools banned it, too, though coincidentally enough, it actually had LESS caffeine and sugar than Mountain Dew.
But anyway, why do I bring all this up?
Because a cult-like underground movement has driven Coca-Cola to PRODUCE SURGE AGAIN!!! So once more, you can order a “12’er” of the amazing soda.
Don’t go looking at stores, however. The only place (at the moment) to enjoy the nostalgia of Surge, which was discontinued in 2003, is on Amazon.
I am like a little kid... on Christmas.... with loads of sugar... and presents!!!!!
The ROYALS are THE STORY of national baseball writers, as they square off with Detroit this weekend at "The K." All three games are sold out - all three are on national TV - and if KC wins 2, they'll be tied for first place with 7 games to go. Win all 3? Be two games ahead with 7 to go!!
The stakes couldn't be any higher, and neither could my blood pressure. :)
Cheryl Tiegs, a former super model from the 70's, is completely drunk, in the Minnesota Twins radio broadcast booth. She's supposed to be taking about a charity event they're doing - and she does, briefly. But mainly, its about completely RANDOM topics...
My alarm clock went off around 9:30 AM on 9/11/2001. I was a junior at the University of Nebraska and was waking up for class. Before I even knew what was going on, I could tell something was HORRIBLY WRONG from the morning show on the radio station I worked for. They were in all news coverage and there was somberness out of them that I'd never heard.
Within 5 minutes, I pieced together what had happened - it was difficult, because at that time, terrorism was something that we saw in the movies, for the most part, and not on American Soil. At least not to that level.
Even 13 years later, I can't comprehend what happened that day. It's so impossible to grasp how there can be so much evil in the world and how that evil can feel that they are allowed to end innocent lives of so many and besides that, destroy families. It's so, so sad. So, so senseless. And so, so hard to believe. It's a tragedy that will NEVER fade in the hearts of Americans and so many people of different cultures and continents around the world. WE WILL NEVER FORGET. We will STAND TOGETHER.
On this day, I think of those we lost that day... there parents... wives.... husbands.... children..... friends.... co-workers.... and I say a prayer but more than that, SEND STRENGTH to everyone involved.
And really, we are ALL involved. We are in this together.
I'm sure you've heard by now that J-Law, Ariana, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst & many others had their photos hacked off of iCloud by some weirdo and published all over the Internet. I find it quite scary and sad that these personal life situations were taken advantage of by somebody and revealed to the world. Upton and J-Law have vouched to prosectute to the fullest extent of the law, with the FBI currently investigating. More info below.
As I mentioned last week, its so exciting to see that the world is starting to catch on, too. We've had THREE games on national TV this week alone - this past Monday and Tuesday and comin' up Sunday, ESPN's National Game of the Week on Sunday Night Baseball!
I am honored, humbled and excited to be one of the emcees for tomorrow mornings (Thursday 8/27) "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Kick-off Breakfast. For the second straight year, myself and Carolyn Long from KCTV5 will be doing our small part in helping to attack the horrible disease of breast cancer. It affects all of us, either directly or indirectly, and this is a very powerful cause that I'm very passionate in helping out.
If you're there tomorrow, can't wait to see you!
If not, keep it on Mix and/or check out the American Cancer Society to see how you to can help "make it a year with more Birthdays" for all of those affected by these horrible disease.
I enjoyed having lunch today (Thursday 8/14) at the Dairy Queen in Lee's Summit on "Miracle Treat Day!"
Hopefully you can do the same as you head home from work - have a blizzard, HELP THE KIDS!!!
And this isn't just at the Lee's Summit DQ, it's all over the metro.
That's right, its the annual Dairy Queen fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network, where a portion of each blizzard at participating DQ locations goes to support CMN hospitals, including KU Med Pediatric.
I have GOT to put in a plug for my beloved Royals, who currently sit in FIRST PLACE on August 13th after winning 16 of their last 20 games! This has been a truly amazing run and the best part is - I think they have a VERY GOOD CHANCE at winning the A.L. Central and finishing in first place! That would snap a 29 year playoff drought. I think this is very doable because the Royals have a VERY easy schedule from here on out. If they play up to their ability, they control their own destiny!
Cheers to the Boys In Blue and an exciting finish to this summer, as well as baseball deep into fall!
This is incredibly sad and hits me very hard... From Patch Adams to Good Will Hunting, One Hour Photo to Mrs. Doubtfire... Robin Williams was one of the best. Barnone. And had some KC connections, too.
Depression is a very, very REAL DISEASE. It can take over ones body and make them feel paralyzed and hopeless. Remember you aren't alone in your battle and hopefully, some lives can be saved from this tragedy that Robin has encountered from more attention being spotlighted on mental health. Unfortunately sometimes, this is what it takes for that to happen.
God Bless you and your family Robin - RIP - you'll be missed.
So think back to last year when "The Fox" was re-done on the trombone by a Kansas farmer! This made him go viral and here we are again, in 2014, with the same thing happening.
This time, he has played "Royals" by Lorde on the trombone and when you watch this video, all of a sudden, slowly but surely, the entire herd of cows show up. They must enjoy the song quite a bit, because they respond when he pauses. Absolutely classic! Click below.
First, the bad news, as she is splitting up with her husband, which obviously has her in a difficult place in life (read below).
The good news is, it's inspired her to do an album - her first since 2007! Hard to believe it's been seven years.
I have met Hillary a couple of times and she was always very gracious, sweet and down to earth. I believe she married for all of the right reasons and does most things in her life the same way - I truly do wish her the best and admire her!
The Australian group "5 Seconds of Summer" did something really cool - they dressed up as Target workers recently and attempted to sell copies of their CD to unsuspecting shoppers! Haha.
This reminds me of the time, back in 2005, that I hung out with 50 Cent the day that his CD came out and we called Best Buy locations around town and asked if they had his album in stock yet. When they weren't sure or said no, he went off on them over the phone. Classic stuff.
Check out this article with details of the 5 Seconds of Summer prank!
The linked video will likely make you smile, laugh and cry.
A poor bride-to-be saw her Dad tragically pass away six months before her wedding day. So the question became not only HOW she would get through the tough time but also, who would walk her down the aisle?
As it turned out, it was her favoite college team's mascot. Watch below!
I just wanted to THANK YOU for lighting up my day and making me laugh with your hitchhiking stories today (Friday) on the 5 O'Clock Soundoff.
The following were my favorite:
-Amy from Lee's Summit was at Pike's Peak in Colorado after a foot of snow and BY HERSELF, picked up two backpackers who were lost from hiking. She lived to tell about it.
-Jenna from Leawood has a friend who MET HER HUSBAND hitchhiking to work every single day in the Mountains of Colorado (notice a theme here about CO)? Apparently the dude was a model and gave her a ride to work. No idea why she didn't invest in a bike or city bus service?? :)
-Chris from the U.S. Army (THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE) picked up a guy outside of Fort Hood. They picked up another veteran, who asked for money and then proceeded to blow it gambling. There was nearly a big fight.
There were lots more that aren't airable or writeable, if you know what I mean. But again, thank you for reaching out to me at 816-576-7093, on twitter.com/daveo933 and facebook.com/daveoradio . You make my day!
Have a great weekend and if you see this woman hitchhiking..... to quote "Dumb & Dumber.." "Pick her up!!!"
I'd just like to wish you a Happy and safe 4th of July weekend, from me, KC and Tippy (the cats)!
I hope you are able to spend time with your family, relax a bit and remember what this Holiday weekend is all about - celebrating America's Birthday and the awesome freedoms and possibilities that exist because of our forefathers, millitary, etc. We truly do live in the best country in the world and are all very fortunate.
So not only is Macklemore completely amazing for tackling "social issues" and being brave enough to take a stand on them, but he also is.... (ready for this???)... a CAT lover!!!
We mentioned this before, but he's officially taken it to a whole new level with his cat, Cairo, having his own Instagram account!
This hits home for me, because back in 2006, the late great Mama Kiki (my old calico cat) had her own MySpace page. It was a big emabrassment to me because she would log on late at night when she was drunk and high on cat nip and make weird updates. So far, KC and Tippy haven't learned how to sign up for Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages...... YET.
Some facts about this winning streak for you to impress your friends or co-workers with:
-The Royals have won double digit games in a row for the first time since 1994.
-In 1994, they won 14 in a row.
-This is the latest in a year that the Royals have been in first place since 2003.
-They were last in first place on this date in............... 1980!!!
His name is Aaron Schneider. Been in the U.S. Army, first of all (THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE)! Then, he witnessed a beagle getting hit by a car on Tuesday, on busy Highway 470 in Lee's Summit, when he RISKED HIS LIFE AGAIN to cross into traffic and get this dog off the road. Sit with it three hours. And the rest is history.
Listen at 4:30 on this Friday to hear him join us on Mix AND check out the story below from our friends at Fox 4.
See the below link to view for yourself - but "plus size models" have begun the fight to show off what real sized women look like. I put "plus size models" in quotations because these women really don't appear to be what you would consider "plus size.' They are beautiful, just as everyone is, in their own way.
Take a look and see what you think - but good for these women for showing off "their plus sizes." (Ridicolous term)
The following article scares the heck out of me, especially for women in the KC Metro. We all know and hear about the "date rape drug," and to be upfront and clear, we are NOT sure this is what happened in the below case. However, it would seem from the article below that it very well may have been a case of this.
A 33 year old KC woman went out to a few clubs last night and woke up, alone, with a man, in an abandoned house. He quickly left her and she has no memories of how she got there or what happened once she arrived in Westport. I find this incredibly scary and feel bad for women that they even have to consider this when they go out - but it seems that more and more, it's something to be taken very seriously and not lightly.
I hope they find out what happened to this woman and if there was a crime that occurred, they find the man responsible for it. This is very sickening to me.
I've gotta tell you, it has really hit home for me how many lives we are changing with Co-Worker Cash. That's beacuse we actually DELIVER THE CASH TO YOU that you win, by listening five times each weekday (during the hours of 8, 10, 12, 2 & 4). And seeing the excitement... hearing how the money will be spent... is really rewarding to me. I've heard things from "helping to pay for a honeymoon" to "paying off my credit card" to "my husband and I are taking a weekend vacation to Colorado!" Trust me, I'm fully aware that you've probably tried to play and win radio contests before, and never win... I know its frustrating.. I was there in a past life. But this is the easiest contest EVER. All you have to do is sign up on this very website and listen for your name - call back and win. It's that simple.
Hope to see YOU soon, with a wad of cash in hand for YOU. Thanks for listening and have a great weekend!
You know I love my freaking cats, so of course I'm gonna be in heaven the last week, as we've heard two amazing things about cats.
First, there was "hero cat" in California, who selflessly protected a little boy from an attack dog that would become euthanized. This was captured on home video and has since (rightfully so) gone viral.
Now, there's a cat that CLIMBS MOUNTAINS with its owner. This might be even cooler! Check it out below.
To be specific, former CO-HOST of "Dancing With The Stars" Brooke Burke-Charvet, who let it slip last night that basically, she thinks Erin was a debacle of a hire....
I don't mean to hate on Erin; she's had quite the successful journey. But I tend to agree with Brooke - I just have never been a fan. To me, there's always been a bit of an ego and stuckupedness about her - I can't really explain it. Just not a big fan, and that's coming from somebody who adores about 85% of sideline reporters.
Anyway, just mine, and Brooke's, two cents. Click below for more.
Okay first of all, I'm a self admitted romantic and very nostalgic. I like to think of things in beautiful and peaceful terms, and romanticize them, too. So that might explain why I both love and hate driving by these old, deserted, run down KCMO schools that continue to sit empty.
Schools like Westport High School (below), the Horace Mann School (recently torn down), Valentine School (on SW Trafficway), Blenheim Elementary (off of Gregory and HWY 71), etc, etc. They all look like they had so much character and strength, and its easy for me, as I drive by, to imagine all of the lives they touched. All of the people who passed through there, and all of the halls and playgrounds and parking lots that were once full of people, cars and dreams.
It's neat to imagine these schools once hustling and bustling, and kind of fun to try and imagine a different time. But sad now in that they sit empty, mainly because of lack of funding and tough times that continue to face the KC MO school system.
If you happen to be reading this and went to one of these schools, or have memories of them, I'd love to hear from you, either right here on the comments section of this page or via email, firstname.lastname@example.org .
In the meantime, I'll keep driving past them and dreaming.
She will THROW OUT THE FIRST PITCH at a Bakersfield Blaze minor league baseball game - its now confirmed. HAHHAHA. I have been laughing all day. I'm not sure how they'll do it but I'm assuming they will hold her about a foot above the catchers mit and have the owner put her paw on a ball, that will then drop into the catcher's mitt? I can't wait to see video, as I'm sure TMZ or the team itself will post.
For a cat lover like me, I'm just soaking this all up!
