Insidious Chapter 2 is James Wan's follow up to Insidious (2010). It stars Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) and Rose Byrne (X-Men: First Class). In this film, the Lambert family dives deeper into the mysterious and horrific realm that has haunted Josh Lambert (Wilson) since he was child.

First off, if you haven't seen the first Insidious, you should watch it before you see Chapter 2. This one goes into a more in depth look into the events that took place at the end of the original while shedding some light on the unanswered questions.
It starts out in 1986 when Josh is a child. His mother is trying to figure out what is wrong with her son.  That is when she meets Elise Rainier, (SPOILER ALERT) who later becomes the victim of Josh when he is possessed by the Old Woman at the end of Insidious. It jumps right into where the first one left off and the Chapter 2 begins.
At the onset of the film, the tension builds and builds and then builds some more.  When the moment of terror finally arrives, the impact is less than exciting.  As the story progresses, it becomes more and more creepy, but rarely pushes one to the edge of their seat.  There are some good jumpy moments and some scary imagery, but this movie never quite hits the mark.
Patrick Wilson, Barbara Hershey and Rose Byrne gave good performances. Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson) are back and added some good comic relief.  The other supporting roles were just okay and at times were a little over-the-top.
The thing I disliked the most about this movie was how digital it looked.  The shots were almost too clear and it appeared more along the lines of a well shot home video rather than a dark horror film intended for the big screen.  It took away from the terror and lessened the intensity of the climaxes throughout most of the movie.
For the James Wan fans out there - don't worry, there's plenty in this movie to keep you entertained and you'll be glad to have more details as to what occurred at the end of Chapter 1.
My grade for this film: C+
