Grown Ups 2 stars Adam Sandler (Funny People), Kevin James (Here Comes The Boom), Chris Rock (Madagascar), and David Spade (Joe Dirt). Without spoiling too much, I can say the story picks up somewhat where it left off at the end of the last Grown Ups- with a few key changes. There is one important change that fans of the first one should know in order to avoid disappointment. Rob Schneider is not in this movie. I did some research and I could not find any clear reasons as to why he didn't sign on for this one and he has essentially been replaced by Nick Swardson (Grandma's Boy).
At times this movie is inappropriate and gross, but above all else, laugh-out-loud funny!
I'll admit, I was skeptical going into this movie. I know there are a lot of fans of the first Grown Ups, but I was not one of them. I didn't hate it by any means. I thought the plot was decent, but the comedy was subpar and as a whole the movie was too cheesy.
In Part 2, it's completely the opposite. There is no driving force behind the story...no clear common goal...no real plot. It is one day in the life of Lenny and the boys as they kick off the summer while sharing a midlife coming-of-age experience. There are plenty of cheesy and stupid moments, but a big laugh is lurking around EVERY corner. I thought the writers seemed more dialed in on what the audience would find funny. Even when I thought something was gross or inappropriate, somehow they managed to make it funny and I couldn't stop myself from laughing. I haven't heard so much uproarious laughter in a theater since This is the End. I enjoyed myself from the very first scene until the movie ended. This one is by far funnier than the first!
You may want to screen it before you take your kids as there is some very suggestive content and not so subtle adult humor. It's one of the funniest movies of the year so far. It's Sandler's best movie since Funny People.
If you liked the first Grown Ups, go see this movie! You'll love it!
