If you missed it this afternoon... I signed a brand new TWO YEAR CONTRACT to stay at Mix through December of 2013! I am thrilled and so happy to stay a part of this awesome team living in this awesome city!
And while this might be a little unethical and borderline illegal, I am going to share with you the contract I signed, simply because I get a lot of calls and e-mails asking what a radio contract looks like.
Check one out below, before our lawyers find out and make me take it down.
Here are the items I've gotten off of Zaarly in the last two weeks and how they've made my life easier:
1. An XBOX 360 for $100. Has completely cured my boredom.
2. Two hours of raking my yard for $75. Has enabled me to worry about more important things like... watching football.
3. XBOX 360 games for $25 a piece. Has allowed me to play the kick ace X Box I purchased.
4. A wall clock for $20. Now I'm never late for football kickoffs!
Zaarly.com is based right here in Kansas City by an awesome group of people that have invented a service so cool, that Ashton & Demi recently gave them $1 million dollars! Its buyer driven - so you post what YOU want and the price YOU want to pay. And you don't have to just buy physical items... you can get any service off of there, such as raking leaves, assembling an entertainmenet center you bought, giving you a ride somewhere, bringing you something, etc.
Takes 30 seconds to sign up and free to use. I'd seriously consider using it.
I'll admit I started this because of them advertising with us. I may not have checked it out otherwise.
But now that I have, I'm HOOKED and obsessed. Check it our on your phone app or on-line!
As heard on my show last week, Alex & Jamie Gordon from the Royals joined us for an hour in talking about an AWESOME, uplifting story. There is a group of young baseball players in Nebraska who have lost two Mom's to cancer in recent months. Before they died, both Mom's dreamed about living long enough to see their sons play in a baseball tournament in Cooperstown, New York, where the Baseball Hall of Fame is. These mothers fought and fought every single day with the dream of seeing their sons play there.Unfortunately, this awful disease took them from us way too soon. But that's where the courage and uplifting comes in.These boys have decided to wear pink jerseys and instead of their names on their backs, they all have chosen a different word that they want to use in helping to fight cancer. Also, these boys have decided to do a fundraiser to make enough $$$ to make the trip to Cooperstown that their Mom's dreamed of. That's where Alex & Jamie Gordon come in. They heard of this and instantly jumped in to get involved and help.Alex has first hand experience with cancer, as his Mother is a Breast Cancer survivor. The Gordon's reached out to myself and Mix and that's where we come in.Together, we're going to raise enough $$$ to send the boys to Cooperstown AND the other half goes to the American Cancer Society. The event itself is the "Playing For Pink Casino Night" and will feature Gordon, Billy Buter, Luke Hochevar, Kevin Seitzer, Jeff Franceour and several other MLB players, such as Tony Watson from the Pirates and Joba Chamberlain from the Yankees.See more information on how to donate, how to purchase tickets for the event or for how to get your business involved. PLEASE consider helping us and these boys.Thank you,Dave O, Alex & Jamie Gordon
Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK (how about that for cliche?!?).
The movie moves slow at points, and its over 2 hours in length, so if you have ADHD, you may not like it that much.
However, if you're someone who enjoys character study type movies and baseball, you will LOVE this movie. I am actually quite surprised how good the movie was - I figured I'd like, but I didn't think there'd be mass appeal.
I was wrong, as the movie was the 2nd biggest this weekend, making well over $22 million!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I can't wait to see it this weekend!
I'm assuming nobody reading this has ever read the book, because its actually a story about baseball geeks who obsess over statistics and find a way to "beat the system" by outsmarting the rich teams. AKA, the Oakland Athletics (who this movie is about) versus the Yankees and Red Sox and Dodgers and Braves and Phillies, etc, etc.
The book itself actually seems like an AWFUL movie candidate because it appeals to such a small audience of baseball stat geeks.
However, they appear to have gotten a great cast in this one, with Brad Pitt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jonah Hill, etc. and they've of course added some Hollywood, since Jonah Hill's character is completely fictionall and didn't exist in the real life version of the movie.
I will provide my expert thoughts next week, since I'm sure you really care!!!???!!! Didn't think so, but they pay me to blog, so I will anyways. hahahah
I've had a lot of people approach me over the past week and ask me what exactly Zaarly is, since they hear me talking about it on the radio.
Essentially, Zaarly is the next Ebay or Craigs List, but much different and much more local, plus much more reliable.
Whatever good or service you're looking for, you can find it on Zaarly.
So, you want somebody to come do three hours of yard work for $75? Zaarly it.
You want tickets to Taylor Swift this weekend for $80? Zaarly it.
You want someone to bring you Godfathers Pizza at 2 AM for $30 since there's only four in the metro and not one close? Zaarly it.
Any good or service, you name your price, and its all local people. The idea comes from CEO Bo, who is on the cover of The Pitch this week with a great article about the company.
Ashton and Demi recently gave them $1 million dollars, the guy who invented Gmail is in on it, etc.
By the way, its also a way to meet great people. In the last week, Ive met an awesome masseuse, an awesome photographer and two other people who brought me goods.
Check it out, sign up is free and takes about 30 seconds. And after you post what YOU want, look at what others want and see if you can make some quick and easy cash.
How bad does it stink for this town to have to go through another long sports season?
Granted, the Chiefs made the playoffs last year and surprised the NFL, but they sputtered into the offseason, which in turn took away a lot of the momentum.
Then, they come out and lay four eggs in the exhibition season, and get blown out by more points than a "B+" in their first two games. They were embarassed.
Add in three major season ending injuries, and you have recipe for perhaps the worst team in the NFL.
And after countless horrible seasons from the Royals, this town is about as "on edge" as I can ever remember it being when it comes to sports.
So I ask you - how bad are the Chiefs going to be this year? Will it get better and is this just a fluke?
I'll go on record as saying 3-13, and I'll also go on record as guaranteeing the Royals will be in the playoffs from 2013-2016 (each year). Next year, I think they'll have a good season and compete for the playoffs, too.
Sorry, had to write about sports this time and get in my fix. :)
To say I'm excited about IRISH FEST 2011 would be an understatement!
This will be my second one at the annual KC Irish Fest, Crown Center, going on ALL WEEKEND (9/2-9/4).
We'll be broadcasting live tomorrow afternoon from 3-7 PM, so I hope you'll come out, say hey, have a drink, have some awesome food, and partake in all of the awesomeness that is Irish Fest.
Get more info below and see you out there all weekend!
We've been updating you throughout the day on the health and recovery of Mix artist Gavin DeGraw, after being beaten within an inch of his life by three random thugs in New York City yesterday. To pour salt in his wounds, 13 blocks from the attack site, he was then hit by a taxi cab.
DeGraw had been opening for Train and Maroon 5 but of course, that will halt at least for awhile. He is sending out tweets now and appears to be okay.
This is great news because Gavin is one of the best guys you'll ever meet, period. Not only in music, but in life. Very humble, down to earth, approachable, funny and odd (in a good way). He's one of my favorite interviews of all time.
To follow the story and keep up with it, see the link below.
I am a total SLACKER. I haven't updated my blog in about two weeks! Whoops.
I promise to do a better job of writing from here on out... unless I forget. In that case, I get a free pass. :)
I definitely hope to see you this weekend at the Speedway for Kanrocksas Music Festival. Good grief, this lineup and setup has me giddy. It will literally be the biggest festival to ever hit KC, and I've heard from 12 different cities and three COUNTRIES visiting our town for this. Very exciting to have KC as kind of a "test hub" for this concept, which will soon be taking off across America.
Have a great weekend and they have a GREAT website with limitless amounts of information, so check it out! www.kanrocksas.com
Congrats to Kate and Austin (their real names, believe it or not) and we'll have to let you know how the date goes. We'll be seeing the KC Premiere of "Friends With Benefits" and going to dinner.
Kate was very excited when I called her, as was her Mother. Her Mother was nearly screaming in excitement, as a matter of fact. She must really like her future son in law.
Austin, meanwhile, called Molly "that hot blonde from Mix." Nice game brother, love it!
More details to come. And accepting applications for chaperones!
And Intern Liz is beautiful... or at least that's what the dudes of beautifulpeople.com said, since I'm not allowed to comment until after her internship is over. hahahhaha
Intern Nathan, meanwhile, was NOT allowed on the site. They sent him an e-mail that said "4 out of 5 applicants are denied" and "next time, try a better picture and a better personality description."
Seriously??? How rude is that!!! They're not only calling him unattractive, they're calling him uninteresting, too!
Poor guy... he hasn't left his room since Saturday, from what I understand.
Nothing but love to Leonard Pope of the Chiefs for saving the life of a six year old boy who was near death yesterday in Atlanta.
The story is, the boy was at a pool party, and was about to drown. Pope was inside the house when he heard the boys Mother screaming that her son was drowning and both he and she didn't know how to swim.
Luckily, the "Chief" was there to save the day, as he jumped in, clothes on, cell phone in his pocket, and saved him!
Hope you've been staying warm these past few days and enjoying the summer! I just returned from Nebraska yesterday after spending a few days on vacation with my family. I always love going back home because for as boring as it can be sometimes, it helps keep in perspective the simple and most important things in life. Do me a favor and give someone you love a big hug today and try to never take for granted a second with them. That is something I have been trying to master as the years go on - trying to really find a way to soak up and enjoy each day. Its easy to say "life live to its fullest" and "never take a moment for granted" but have you ever thought of how near impossible it is to live like that? It takes a lot of work and focus. Its way too easy to not soak up the big moments in our lives and to wish time away. I've been trying to do better at this for years.
I think I have a second career waiting for me if my ratings ever go down and I get fired - maybe I could be a motivational speaker? What do you think? The funny thing is I actually have thought about that before. The more of these e-mails I write, the more I feel like I should be screaming into a microphone and flailing my arms around and telling you "it will get better" or something. I'd be a handsome motivational speaker for sure??!!??
Pick Your Purse is just about to enter coach Purse #4 with an exciting twist beginning next week! We also have more concert announcements coming up soon and as always, an amazing afternoon drive show from 3-7 PM.... as long as you have a bad sense of humor or are tipsy.
Talk to you soon and hope to hear from you soon - I love emails and phone calls, so stay in touch.
