Back again! I'm looking forward to nursing school being over so I can get out for more cosplay events and cover more cosplay news…December!!! Sorry, I'm excited that I'm almost done and then I will have more time for my passions outside of nursing.
So, what is happening? Well, just this little thing called Kansas City Comic Con this weekend! It's the inaugural event for this con and it's shaping up to be quite the spectacular. I will be joining my girlfriend, Angela Diegel, at her booth in the artist area as she is a digital artist and I will also be joining back up with Kansas City Cosplay and Photography (KCCP) to help with their booth and the costume contest, so come out and see me. Why else would you want to come out? Well, of course there will be cosplay, plus there will be other artists, vendors, photo opportunities, panels, and celebrities. The panels will range from being with both local and celebrity cosplayers about subjects such as how to get into cosplay, techniques, gender and transgender issues, LGBT community, plus panels with comic creators and artist, and celebrities about their experiences during their careers. As I mentioned, I will be at the KCCP booth here and there throughout the weekend, but besides myself we will be featuring KCIronman, Red Dalek, the TARDIS, and an Elite Comics sponsored photo area where you can get photos with many of the local awesome cosplayers plus KCCP will be hosting two of the panels, Cosplay 101 and Cosplay 201. KCCP will also have a giveaway at their booth with three different prize packs: one for cosplayers to enter, one for photographers to enter, and one for the Con-attendees. The winners will be drawn on Sunday at 3PM, if the winner isn't present then we will ship the prize…so one day or three day or even two day or heck, half a day attendees can all win, but trust me that you will want to be there all three days!
What else is going on? Well on Saturday morning, 8/8, in order to officially launch the second day of the con there will be a parade of costumed con attendees and cosplayers at 9:45 AM down Central St from 12th Street to 14th Street. Those interested in participating simply need to be in costume, have either a 3 Day or Saturday pass, and begin lining up at 8:30 AM and after the parade the participants will be the first people entering the con for the second day and biggest day! There will also be several after hours events such as the Jackie Brown screening at Alamo Drafthouse on Friday night with Jackie Brown herself, Pam Grier, and The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters on Saturday night at Screenland Armour as well as a party at Tapcade at Crossroads at 7 PM with Billy Mitchell in attendance.
Speaking of celebrities, there will be plenty of them available for autographs, pictures, chats, and chance run ins. Who will be there? Well as I already said, Pam Grier and Billy Mitchell plus Cas Anvar of The Expanse and Olympus, Sean Astin from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and The Goonies, Colin Baker of Doctor Who and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Manu Bennett of Arrow and The Hobbit Trilogy, Walter Day from The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, Rick Howland of Lost Girl and Tin Man, Nalini Krishan from Star Wars: Episode II, Kristian Nairn of Game of Thrones and Ripper Street, Trina Nishimura of Attack on Titan and Space Dandy, Butch Patrick who played "Eddie Munster" on The Munsters, Adrian Paul from the Highlander and War of the Worlds on Saturday and Sunday only, Mark Ryan of Transformers and Black Sails, Orli Shosan from Star Wars: Episode III, Austin St. John of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers Zeo, plus Cerina Vincent of Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy and Cabin Fever plus many more creator guests and other media guests as well.
There will also be Live Art demonstrations, video game with 10 stations and over 100 games to play, plus several tattoo artists who can take care of your permanent skin art needs right at the con!
This is shaping up to be quite an event and will have me busy all weekend getting coverage to report back to you and there will be lots of photos coming at you as well. The event is Aug 7-9 at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, MO. Adults tickets are $60 for a 3 day pass, $25 for Friday only, $35 for Saturday only, and $30 for Sunday only. Youth 3 day passes, ages 11-16, are only $20 and kids 10 and under are free! This is a great and affordable event for families with plenty for adults and kids alike to enjoy. Come out and join us this weekend for a great time and so much more not even covered here, but you can find more at www.kansascity-comiccon.com, plus I have a really special surprise in mind that I can't talk about yet, but I'm very excited for it and will report back on it next week!
I have to show off the new lights I've worked into my cosplay too just in time for KCCC this weekend.
Outside of KCCC, keep in mind that Crypticon Kansas City is right around the corner too Aug 21-23 and that is where I made my first public cosplay appearance with Vector. Crypticon is a horror centered convention and I always have a great time there and have made many great friends there. I will post more information about this event soon, but until then you can find it at crypticonkansascity.com.
