2 Guns stars Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, and Bill Paxton. It's based on the Boom!, the graphic novels by Steven Grant. It's about A DEA agent (Washington) and a naval intelligence officer (Wahlberg) who end up on the run after they miss an opportunity to penetrate a powerful drug cartel. While fleeing, they learn each other is an undercover agent and must work through their differences in order to stay alive and clear their names.
This movie has quite a mix of good and bad. Some of the dialogue is funny and witty and at other times, it's terribly cheesy. The plot was somewhat compelling, but tended to be too convenient and far fetched.
The worst thing about this movie is Paula Patton (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol). I hate to single her out like this, but she wasn't very good. Every line or emotion she had seemsed staged and awkward to the point of being distracting.
Aside from all that, I quite liked this movie. Wahlberg and Denzel had great chemistry and played very well off of each other. Every scene they had together was entertaining and funny. Denzel was his typical self and to no one's surprise managed to shine brighter than everyone around him, but Wahlberg held his own. I liked his fast talking and confident style. He was very funny and I found his performance somewhat reminiscent of his character in Contraband.
Bill Paxton did a good job of pulling off some really cheesy lines and I enjoyed his performance enough.
All in all, this film is violent and pretty shocking at times. It's full of action, explosions, and non-stop comic relief. It's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it's highly entertaining and a lot of fun!
I would put this movie in the same league as Contraband and Safe House, even though I liked it more than both of them (especially Safe House). If you liked either of those films, go see 2 Guns. You will definitely enjoy it!
